Lasaniya Batata Recipe

Lasaniya Batata is a spicy and flavorful Gujarati dish made with baby potatoes cooked in a rich garlic-infused gravy. It pairs well with roti, puri, or rice.



Ingredients

For the Potatoes:

  • 2 cups baby potatoes, boiled and peeled
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder

For the Masala:

  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 2 tablespoons garlic, finely chopped
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, pureed
  • 1 teaspoon ginger paste
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
  • 1/2 cup water
  • Fresh coriander leaves, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Potatoes

  1. Heat oil in a pan and add boiled baby potatoes.
  2. Sprinkle salt and turmeric, sauté for 3-4 minutes, and set aside.

Step 2: Prepare the Masala

  1. Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds.
  2. Add finely chopped garlic and fry until golden brown.
  3. Add onions and cook until soft and translucent.
  4. Stir in ginger paste and cook for 1 minute.
  5. Add pureed tomatoes and cook until oil separates.
  6. Mix in red chili powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, garam masala, and salt.
  7. Add water and let it simmer for 5 minutes.

Step 3: Combine and Serve

  1. Add the fried potatoes to the gravy and mix well.
  2. Simmer for 5-7 minutes, allowing the flavors to blend.
  3. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves.

Step 4: Serve

  1. Serve hot with roti, puri, or rice.
